About Me

Hi. I’m Jess.

I am an extraordinarily passionate Production Designer. A story-teller.

Currently situated in South East Queensland, however I consider myself a citizen of the world. I seek wonderful opportunities across Australia and Great Britain.

It is my greatest desire to contribute my passion for creating thoughtful Production Designs that effectively, subtly and seamlessly communicate each unique story, sub-text, theme and character. I bring passion, determination, innovation, time-management, organisation, research and  desire to compliment all other departments of every film production; with the greatest goal being to create one whole, unique, story-telling experience.

Michael Corenblith describes the production designer’s craft: “We depict the visual contours of the screenplay and select or create the environments and decors that best express this to an audience, without their ever being aware of our presence. We create the canvas upon which the director and cinematographer paint their movie.”

When graduating from my film production degree in 2005 I took the opportunity to travel abroad for a few years and explore Europe. I mark these travels as some of my greatest achievements. Now that my travelling bug has been released, I am now actively pursuing my career again as an Art Department professional and aspire to work amongst the best filmmakers in the world.

Catherine Martin, Susuki Ingerslev and Sarah Greenwood are just a few of the great Production Designers that have inspired and pushed me. Films that have shaped my way of “seeing” include Amelie, Atonement, Edward Scissorhands, Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind, Trainspotting, Pans Labyrinth, Garden State and Romeo + Juliet.

I continue to be inspired and influenced by many talented artists, new and old, including photographers, interior decorators, architects and fashion designers. Some of the people that influence me most are young and innovate and emerging on the scene. I admire their passion and fresh perspectives. I believe that great design is not elitist. It is for everyone. And I believe in the fostering of harmonious collaborations.
